2014 is off to a good start!
We read a lot of very good books this year! My two favorites, and the club’s favorites also, were Shadow of the Wind and The Night Circus. Both were SO good! Not only did we rate them high, we couldn’t quit talking about them!
Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zaffron rated 8.71/10
Hemingway’s Girl by Erika Robuck rated 8.12/10
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho rated 6.6/10
The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley rated 6.35/10
The Dinner by Herman Koch rated 7.33/10
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern rated 8.75/10
Madam Tussaud: A Novel of the French Revolution rated 8.23/10
Where’d You Go, Bernadette? by Maria Semple rated 8.08/10
When will there be Good News? by Kate Atkinson rated 7/10
We only read 9 books in 2012 due to everyone’s busy schedules. In June, we decided to start rating all the books that we read. Everyone rates the book 1-10 (10 is the highest) and then we average it out.
When we first started rating the books we were a lot harder than we are now. 🙂 I think This is Where I Leave you and The Tie That Binds really deserve to be 1-2 points higher. Gone Girl was definitely the favorite of the year and Outlander was the the second fave.
House of Sand and Fog by Andre Dubus III
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
Enders Game by Orson Scott Card
The Shoemaker’s Wife by Adriana Trigiani
This is Where I Leave You by Jonathan Tropper rated 5.63/10
Second Glance by Jody Picoult rated 5.08/10
The Tie That Binds by Kent Maruf rated 4.5/10
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn rated 8.66/10
Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell rated 6.66/10
The Bitchin’ Wive Book Clun started in June 2011 and our first book was Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen.
Here is a list of the books we read in 2011
Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand
The Help by Kathryn Stockett
Sarah’s Key by Tatiana de Rosnay
Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris
Half Broke Horses by Jeanette Walls

Our favorite book of the year was Unbroken. We all loved it and recommended it over and over again to friends and relatives. Our next two favorites were Water for Elephants and The Help.
